The SALTO project, which stands for Reusable Strategic Space Launcher Technologies and Operations, aims to mature reusable rocket technologies in Europe. The goal is to enable the deployment of a reusable launch fleet in the 2030s. The dual objective is to drastically reduce launch costs and improve the environmental footprint of EU strategic space missions through an intensive test and learn approach with full-scale reusable vehicle test flights.

Celeres (formerly GTD) holds two critical responsibilities in this consortium. First, for the Launch Range, we are developing the Ground Autonomous Flight Termination System, known as GAFTS. This system improves safety-related activities by eliminating human sources of error and reducing mission costs. Crucially, it supports the high launch rate capacity required for reusable concepts and integrates predictive maintenance capabilities.

GAFTS processes telemetry and tracking data to autonomously calculate the impact point in real-time, automatically issuing a termination command without human intervention if the vehicle deviates from its trajectory.

Second, for Launch Complex Monitoring and Control Operations, Celeres is responsible for validating SAMMBA launch complex services during a real micro-launcher campaign. By operating these systems in slave mode to support nominal operational systems, we are advancing the design and validation of these future spaceport services up to TRL6.
