SAMMBA

Celeres (formerly GTD) coordinated the SAMMBA consortium. This international initiative was designed to standardise and deliver modular base services for the spaceport of the future. The project empowered spaceports to accommodate multiple small launcher concepts efficiently. This flexibility matches the cost and high-cadence needs of the New Space market across various launch azimuths.

To achieve cost-effective and agile campaigns, Celeres led the research and prototyping of Industry 4.0 technologies. In the IT domain, we developed architectures based on Infrastructure as a Service and virtualisation. Specifically, we utilised containers and blockchain technologies to ensure the secure and decentralised distribution and availability of IT systems across multiple spaceports.
Beyond IT infrastructure, the project successfully prototyped and integrated several advanced capabilities. We implemented Systems Automation, incorporating automatic transport, robotic integration, and automated guided vehicle supervision. We integrated Artificial Intelligence to enable predictive maintenance, automated planning, and autonomous decision-making. We also deployed Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality to support both real-time operations and offline operator training. Finally, Celeres drove the development of autonomous flight safety concepts, establishing a validated European blueprint for highly scalable launch base operations.
